    Colonialism (22nd part)
Cultural and intellectual colonization of Afghanistan
Apart from the war crimes and murders that the colonialists committed in this country during the occupation of Afghanistan, and some of them were discussed in the previous discussions, the intellectual and cultural colonialism that the occupying countries committed in Afghanistan was more terrible. In fact, the main and fundamental goal of the occupation of Afghanistan was the same, and the colonizing countries sought to create an intellectual and cultural environment that could make all Afghans and people follow their wishes and goals.
In order to achieve their goals, they started to colonize and conquer the thinking of Afghans, especially the young generation of this country, through different ways and tools. From the educational system to the control of the media, from the spread of prostitution, corruption, and lawlessness to the eradication of belief in the Islamic system and the responsiveness of Islamic thought in the field of solving the doubts of the youth and other classes, they evaluated and mastered it.
In another angle, the invaders made a continuous effort to eradicate the Islamic system and remove the idea of an Islamic caliphate and a religious emirate from the land of Afghanistan. To achieve this important goal, they established a system and government based on democracy and secularism in this country. In order to direct public opinion and push the nation toward the influence of their propaganda and appearances, they colonized the mass media and took them over and financed and directed them.
In this section, we examine the issue of intellectual and cultural colonization of different sections of Afghan society by the occupying countries.
Changing the political system and governance of Afghanistan
There is no doubt that Afghanistan is an Islamic country with Islamic beliefs and traditions. Such a country has an urgent and vital need for an Islamic system and government, and the Muslim nation of Afghanistan has made countless efforts throughout history to revive this system and the Islamic nature of their government. They have fought with various superpowers and sacrificed their lives and their properties. They have not accepted a non-religious government contrary to Islamic teachings.
After dominating Afghanistan, the colonialists established a republican and electoral system based on Western values and laws and somehow wanted to resolve the controversial issue of governance in Afghanistan. They ignored the fact that this type of system will never be able to respond to the demands of the Muslim nation of Afghanistan and their religious sense and will never be able to implement divine decrees and Islamic orders in this Islamic land.
Why can’t the republican system implement Islam?
Although the republican and electoral system seems to be better than other royal, autocratic, and dictatorial governments, it is more dangerous than all other types. This type of government is based on Western values and standards and Western democracy, which are in conflict with the religious, national, moral, and political principles and values of the Islamic world.
Examples of the contradiction between the republican system and the Islamic system are as follows:
    1. Not paying attention to the voter’s knowledge, experience, intellect, religion, and trustworthiness.
In republican systems, the votes of individuals determine the ruling system, and all members of society have only one vote. A person who is illiterate or lacking the ability to analyze events and happenings is considered equal to a scholar and thinker in the political and governance system. A person who is pious and trustworthy is treated the same as a traitor known for corruption. This issue cannot gather votes according to the basic interests and needs of the country.
    2. Opening the way for corrupt and irreligious people to run for office.
The republican and electoral systems based on Western democracy allow anyone of any religion and orientation to be a candidate in elections. Good and virtuous people have been prevented from participating in elections or removed from office despite winning due to military coups and political movements.
    3. The government of the republic is bound by the majority vote.
Governments based on elections make decisions not based on Shariah but on the majority vote, even if the decision goes against Islamic rulings.
    4. The sheer westernization of these governments.
Governments considering themselves republics and democratic are influenced by Western thought and policy. They resist implementing Islamic laws in Islamic lands.
All these things led the Muslim nation of Afghanistan to reject Western governments that only claimed to be republican and inclusive. The colonialists failed in their first and basic goal, which was to replace the Islamic system with the Western system.
